When a US founder or CTO asks us "Flutter or React Native," the honest first question back is: are you asking about the technology, or are you asking who you can actually hire and how fast you can ship? Most comparisons online answer the first question with benchmarks. The second question is usually the one that decides the project.

Hiring Pool and Cost in the US Market

React Native draws from the much larger pool of JavaScript/React developers already working in web. If your team already has React engineers, extending them into React Native is a smaller hiring lift than starting a Flutter hire from zero — a real advantage for US startups trying to move fast with an existing team.

Flutter has a smaller, more specialized talent pool, but that pool tends to be dedicated mobile engineers rather than web developers moonlighting on mobile — which shows up in fewer platform-specific bugs once you're past the prototype stage. In our experience staffing both stacks for US clients, a senior Flutter engineer and a senior React Native engineer land at roughly comparable US market rates ($120–$180/hr for local senior talent); the gap that actually matters is availability, not price.

Performance and Native Feel

Flutter compiles to native ARM code through its own Skia-based (moving to Impeller) rendering engine, which gives it more consistent 60fps+ performance on animation-heavy or data-dense screens without platform-specific tuning. React Native's newer architecture (Fabric) has closed much of this gap and gets you closer to true native components, which matters if your app needs to feel indistinguishable from a fully native iOS/Android build.

Verdict: for most business apps — dashboards, marketplaces, booking flows, internal tools — the performance difference is not the deciding factor. It becomes one for apps with heavy animation, camera/AR features, or gaming-adjacent UI.

Which One Fits an MVP vs a Scaling Product

For a US startup validating a first version, we lean Flutter when the team is starting fresh (one codebase, one hiring track, fewer platform-specific surprises) and React Native when there's already a React web team that can share components and logic across web and mobile.

For a product past MVP and scaling toward millions of users, both frameworks hold up in production — Google (Flutter) and Meta (React Native) each run their own large-scale apps on their respective frameworks — so the deciding factor at that stage becomes your existing team's skill set, not a theoretical ceiling either framework hits first.

What We Actually Recommend

We don't have a house preference we push regardless of project — we've shipped production apps in both for US clients. What we do insist on: deciding based on your team composition and hiring reality, not on whichever framework had the loudest blog post this month. If you already have React engineers, that's a real cost advantage for React Native. If you're starting a dedicated mobile hire from scratch, Flutter's smaller but more focused talent pool is worth serious consideration.
